It’s the season of new beginnings for Helena and Gilly。

Gilly runs her own B&B business from her much-loved family home, which she doesn’t want to part with – at any price。

But that's before she meets handsome estate agent Leo, and soon she begins to wonder whether selling up might not be such a bad idea after all。

Meanwhile Gilly's daughter Helena has a budding romance of her own。 A talented weaver, she's becoming very close to her new landlord, Jago, who's offered to help her at an upcoming craft fair。

It’s what friends do, and they are just friends。 Aren’t they?

With spring in full bloom, Helena and Gilly begin to ask themselves the same question:

Might their new loves lead to happily ever after?

Katie Fforde is one of those very popular authors who have been lurking in the corners of my consciousness for quite some time。 Although she has a huge following I always feared I might find her style a little too frothy and cutesy for my taste but spotting one of her books on Kindle Daily Deal prompted me to try the water and I’m glad I did。 As with this genre the outcomes are no great surprise, it is all about connecting with the characters and caring about what happens to them, a decent story Katie Fforde is one of those very popular authors who have been lurking in the corners of my consciousness for quite some time。 Although she has a huge following I always feared I might find her style a little too frothy and cutesy for my taste but spotting one of her books on Kindle Daily Deal prompted me to try the water and I’m glad I did。 As with this genre the outcomes are no great surprise, it is all about connecting with the characters and caring about what happens to them, a decent story well told with a believable happy ending。 Some readers like books about marrying billionaires but they are not for me, I much prefer the more real world ones and this fits the bill。 Now I have yet more titles in my TBR pile。 。。。more

A friend and a few people from my FB book club have read Katie Fforde's books so as I'm trying to read authors I haven't read before, I decided it was time to try。 I did enjoy it and it was an easy read, especially when you need a bit of escapism and nothing that makes your head hurt。 But I did find that the author skipped detail where detail was needed。 Central plot lines were skimmed over, in my opinion, which was disappointing。 But I will definitely try another in the not too distant future。 A friend and a few people from my FB book club have read Katie Fforde's books so as I'm trying to read authors I haven't read before, I decided it was time to try。 I did enjoy it and it was an easy read, especially when you need a bit of escapism and nothing that makes your head hurt。 But I did find that the author skipped detail where detail was needed。 Central plot lines were skimmed over, in my opinion, which was disappointing。 But I will definitely try another in the not too distant future。 。。。more

Rating is purely personal。 If you're into a nice romance then it's a well written book。 I'm personally not so didn't enjoy it to its full potential。 Was entertained for the most part Rating is purely personal。 If you're into a nice romance then it's a well written book。 I'm personally not so didn't enjoy it to its full potential。 Was entertained for the most part 。。。more

I grew tired of this book and found it a bit lacklustre。 There were parts that made you want to read on but, on the whole, it just felt tiresome。 The main characters were irritatingly good; it was all just a bit too twee for me。 I feel the demographic is a little confusing; when reading it it feels like it could be a teen/young adult book。

Currently reading by way of distraction of being in lockdown 👍

I am a big fan of Katie Fforde and have read all of her books。 I love the way that she can create something special and enjoyable out of the ordinary without becoming moralising or preaching。 This book is no different。 I loved that the primary characters of Gilly and Helena (mother and daughter) were finding love together, as well as dealing with all the obstacles that live throws at us。 I found both Gilly and Helena to be funny hard-working women, but not perfect。 The love interest of Gilly (he I am a big fan of Katie Fforde and have read all of her books。 I love the way that she can create something special and enjoyable out of the ordinary without becoming moralising or preaching。 This book is no different。 I loved that the primary characters of Gilly and Helena (mother and daughter) were finding love together, as well as dealing with all the obstacles that live throws at us。 I found both Gilly and Helena to be funny hard-working women, but not perfect。 The love interest of Gilly (her accountant William) Jago (Helena’s landlord) to be warm, caring men, neither Gilly nor Helena needed or wanted dominate men in their lives。The secondary characters of Martin and his wife Cressida (son and brother to Gilly and Helena) as well as Helena’s friend Amy added depth to the book but without detracting from the main story of the romances of Gilly and Helena。 I enjoyed the family dynamics with Martin and his wife Cressida。 We all have family tensions and I loved the way that Katie Fforde handled this, without getting too deep。 I especially enjoyed the image of Ismene (Martin and Cressida’s daughter) eating chocolate brownies in Gilly’s kitchen as she is not allowed to eat them at home!Katie Fforde keeps a light touch on details, but manages to convey the important facts。 She did this with: Helena being a super recogniser; Gilly running a classy B&B; Helena’s weaving: and Gilly and her new hobby gliding。 The reader is given the opportunity to fill in the details。 This is a nice easy, comfortable read, with some humour, Katie Fforde’s specialty。 。。。more

Not bad, bit of an abrupt ending and not enough fleshing out of the characters。 Everything seemed to happen very fast with marriage proposals to people who have known each other just a few months but that's textbook Fforde。 Not her best but a light pass the time read Not bad, bit of an abrupt ending and not enough fleshing out of the characters。 Everything seemed to happen very fast with marriage proposals to people who have known each other just a few months but that's textbook Fforde。 Not her best but a light pass the time read 。。。more

I am a huge fan of Katie Fforde’s books and have read them all; some many times over as my favourite ones are the reading equivalent of comfort food! This story had 2 threads woven together of Gilly and Helena, I liked that they are mother and daughter。 The relationship between the two was amazing, the brother needed a smack though he was so annoying !

What better way to avoid all the doom and gloom than to read a Katie Fforde book and one full of bright, optimism and spring cheer。Spring always heralds new beginnings and it is no different it seems for mother and daughter Gilly and Helena。 Gilly is happy with running her bespoke B & B she enjoys the work and meeting people and embraces the little touches that make her establishment stand out from the rest - like homemade shortbread! Leo though arrives in her life rather unexpectedly and his chosen career of estate agent might come in useful if Gilly decides to move on。 Helena is about to lose her home and whilst she knows that she can go home, her weaving loom does take up rather a lot of room。 When a chance encounter to help new landlord Jago leads to some interesting events, it seems that Jago is a chance encounter worth pursuing。 In the meantime, Helena's brother Martin and obsessive wife Cressida have other ideas about how Gilly should be spending her days。 They seem rather in conflict in the way Gilly wants to spend them。 Helena is also struggling to see the image of her mother that Martin is trying to portray。 Surely the new blossoms of spring will come to fully bud and the dead weeds will disappear forever? This is a joyous book which takes you through family dynamics and new love。 Added to this is the delicious recipes of Gilly and the wonderful creations of Helena's weaving which make this a true Katie Fforde book。 。。。more

Nice, heartwarming escapism, but not my favourite。 I wasn't in love with the characters this time and found some of it quite unconvincing。 It just didn't gel with me this time but I'm sure I'll read Katie Fforde again in the future。Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-copy in exchange for an honest review。 Nice, heartwarming escapism, but not my favourite。 I wasn't in love with the characters this time and found some of it quite unconvincing。 It just didn't gel with me this time but I'm sure I'll read Katie Fforde again in the future。Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Katie Fforde is one of my favourite authors and I’ve loved every single one of her books。 This one did not disappoint!A warm, cosy read but extremely well-written。 It had me hooked from the first few pages, which is always a good sign。I really enjoyed A Springtime Affair and would highly recommend it。Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK and Cornerstone for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review。

Not for meIf you are used to reading the likes of Marcia Willet, Veronica Henry or Susan Sallis you will find the characters one dimensional and the plot transparent and predictable

Nearing the halfway point, I had decided that this was going to be worth an easy five stars。 Then it disintegrated into a mishmash。 Things happened way too early and instead of becoming more and more romantic, it became mundane and just a little bit boring, with very little holding it together。

Kathie

Katie Fforde back to your lovely writing。 I really enjoyed this story, especially the relationship between mother and daughter。 Reminded me of my relationship with my beautiful mum so much I’ve gifted her a copy to read。 💖
